There have been various fairytale revision of Sleeping Beauty – some naughty, some nice. This particular independent animated revision critiques two of the most prominent themes: Sleeping Beauty’s received gifts and her sleeping lack of consent.
Beauty’s gifts are almost useless, according to the video. Instead of anything practical, they wish her beauty and ability to sing. As to where intelligence didn’t seem to make the cut. The satirical short animation takes a dark twist when she meets her Prince’s wife…
One contention I disagree with is the slut-shaming overtone – not sex-positive – but interesting commentary on the rest of the story.

I would say that this is a feminist revision sleeping beauty because it has such sarcastic tone. I also found it interesting how this one very similar imagery to the Disney version even though colors of the fairies are not mentioned in the original story. I Think this version would be approved by Anne Sexton because it sounds very similar to her tone. The change of the tone at the end was an interesting twist that I had not heard of before and also seems very similar to twist we’ve read on Snow White. I do see how it can be read as slut shaming but I didn’t see it is that I just saw it as her being very strict in her gender role and the author commenting on how women are treated verses men in society. The message being that it is okay for a man to cheat on his wife but she should not leave him ever and should get angry at the woman he’s cheating on her with instead.
